Character Info:
Name: Mari Makinami Illustrious
Age: 14 years old (Estimated - Evangelion pilots can only be of that age according to Ritsuko)
Canon: Rebuild of Evangelion
Pull Point: Before the ending of the movie, but after her fight scene.

Background Info:
History: Mari at the EvaWiki & Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0 at the EvaWiki.
Personality: An enigma to the other characters around her, Mari doesn't speak boldly of her intentions or anything unless it's in regards to combat. When it comes to making friends, she seems dismissive of the idea, as it would require allowing people in. This doesn't mean she's spiteful or distrusting of those around her - in fact, she can be pleasant to speak with if she's in the proper mood. This simply boils down to the simple fact that having friends will get in the way of her goals and judging by how she pilots, most definitely in the way of combat. Her demeanor changes to suit her best for the situation: if she must be calm and knowledgeable, then she can pull it off with ease. If she needs to put up walls between her and another party, then her attitude shifts drastically to where she holds herself on a higher tier than the rest.

The most notable thing to take notice of when it comes to Mari is how well knowledgeable she is of the inner workings of the Eva systems. Even if she's considered a 'novice' pilot with no experience by the society around her, she's quick to prove them otherwise. Piloting is something she relatively enjoys and her bond with the Eva's is an unique one. Where others view them as machines for combat, Mari does that in a respectable manner, talking with them as if she's well aware just how sentient they are. Unusually gentle and loving towards them, it is with how she treats Eva-05 we're able to see that she is possible of some care: whether or not it's a shroud of deceit has yet to been determined. Furthermore, she has a fondness of LCL, and is able to detect it just by sniffing Shinji up close (using it to identify him as a pilot and knowing that he works for NERV with just that).

Combat is where Mari thrives and it's worth mentioning that she's pretty damn good at it. In comparison to Asuka, she can do considerable feats, but the stark contrast between the two is clear as day: where Asuka has elegance and expertise behind her methods, Mari's methods are a bit more chaotic. She exercises no tactics when it comes to battle - preferring to charge right in and take her opponent head on. There is no apprehension of reprimands, not any consideration for property damage when Mari takes the lead: all she cares for is victory. With that goal in her heart, she goes to harsh lengths to achieve it no matter what. With her attained (hidden) information regarding the Eva system, she activates EVA-02's Beast Mode and while she initially struggles with the effects it has on her, the role is one she easily fits into. Which goes without having to explain in depth as Mari herself is already pretty messy with her combat style. One thing to consider though is Mari's surprise whenever Rei shoves her away during the fight with Zeruel.

Her sanity is questionable with the combination of her battle tactics and just how serious she takes things. Singing songs as she charges out towards an Angel, activating Beast Mode with no regards to her own health, and just how attached she is with EVA-02 during such a transformation. Referring to the pair as 'we' instead of a pilot and unit, even going as far as to try to comfort it as they suffer together. Mari comes off as the type that doesn't need people because she has them to rely on instead, compassionate only to things that others treat as tools. Her opponents, on the other hand, are taunted endlessly. Foul-mouthed and bitter, she screams obscenities at them constantly. In short, Mari may be secretive about her methods, but the one obviously glaring fact about her is she's uncouth at times and benevolent at others, making her literally the craziest Eva pilot.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Death
Justification: She's from Evangelion?? As a child of Second Impact, Mari is one of the many who are part of the regeneration cycle of the world she comes from. It's up to her and many others at her age to help rebuild society and deal with all of the pressing issues that come along with it. Yet, it all feeds back into the same cycle, another Impact on the horizon. Along with this arcana, she shows chaotic attributes that lead her to be considered a blood knight, death an often occurrence with her. Lethargic in most normal things, Mari fits the negative bits of this arcana as well, finding herself frustrated and having to undergo change to adapt.

[ Ring, ring Prospero. If one happens to choose to answer this call, they will see a girl hanging upside down from a bar with the phone held in a manner as to not show her legs. Instead, it just focuses on the glasses that are sliding down her face at a slow rate and her insistence on pushing them back up, only to have the process repeat itself. ]

You know.. this place magically teleported a bunch of people from different worlds and timelines to a boring city in some supposed modern time, right? But people don't believe me when I tell them I've piloted giant robots--[ The word is spoken with some distaste - as if it was the improper way of explaining them. ]--they choose to exercise disbelief with that. Really? You people have to get your priorities straight. Plus, if I can run around and kill a bunch of shadows, then that means I'm more than good enough to save the world.

[ With a listless sigh, she lets the glasses fall off of her face entirely. ]

I wonder where I can find the real gullible ones at.. This place is so boring without anyone to really chat with or things to kill most of the time. A hour a day is such a bore. Oh well. [ With a wave of her other hand, she moves to cut the feed. ] Bye-bye now.

Character Info:
Name: Madoka Kugimiya
Age: 16
Canon: Negima! Magister Negi Magi
Pull Point: Toward the end of the Magical World arc, much like Sakurako, before the cheerleaders return to Mahora from Wales

Background Info:
History: A bit of history about Madoka
Personality: Madoka may not really look it, but she really does exemplify the very core idea of a cheerleader. While Sakurako brings the bubbly enthusiasm and Misa the beauty and sexiness, it's Madoka who brings the most important part of any cheering team: supporting others. Whether it's in life, love, or games, Madoka is quick to push her friends to go for it and provide not only the words of encouragement they may need, but any help she can give to see that they succeed. Maybe because of this seriousness or willingness to help others, Madoka comes off as the more level headed and responsible of the cheer-leading team. In a way, this usually makes her the straight man in any of the cheer team's shenanigans, or her job to keep Misa and Sakurako out of trouble. Not that she doesn't like to cause trouble herself though, as sometimes supporting your friends may mean you have to push them to do things they're too embarrassed to do themselves.

Even so, Madoka cares very much for her friends and is extremely protective of them. She's even been known to slap someone (or punch if the slap was blocked) when she felt they caused her friends to cry. All in all, Madoka is a strong girl who looks out for her friends and enjoys being a supportive character. While she enjoys music and cheering, she doesn't feel too secure about being the center of attention, what with her feelings about her husky voice or boyish looks when compared to Misa and Sakurako. Still, that doesn't keep her from creating a band with her friends so they can sing and dance for others. Which just goes to show she's willing to do anything for her friends.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Strength
Justification: While a minor character in her canon, Madoka exemplifies strength and is a source of it for her friends. She is fiercely protective of her friends, ready to intercede on their behalf while at the same time providing the support and encouragement they need to reach for their dreams. Her willingness to help and tenacity to see it through show the qualities of generosity and fortitude typical of Strength in the upright position. On the negative side, her scheming and forceful nature of pushing her friends onward show the tyrannical and immoral impulses of the card inverted. As well as her complex about her voice and looks fitting the pessimism and inadequacy of an inverted Strength.

Character Info:
Name: The Kid
Age: 21, about.
Canon: Bastion
Pull Point: One week after the Evacuation ending.

Background Info:
History: http://bastion.wikia.com/wiki/Caelondia / http://bastion.wikia.com/wiki/The_Kid
Personality: The Kid isn't easy to figure out from the get-go. A few things are immediately obvious, however. One, he is an absolute workaholic. If something needs to be built, found, or torn down, The Kid will miss several days of sleep and take grievous amounts of injuries until his task is finished, come hell or high water. Three, he usually keeps to himself. The Kid passes up any chance to talk about himself or personal experiences to the other survivors, especially a traumatizing experience caused by intoxication at Jawson's Bog. This tends to be mistaken for shyness, but The Kid can approach and talk to people both when necessary and to pass the time. He's not shy in the area of romantic prospects either, having had a girl he fancied before The Calamity broke the world apart, and Rucks hinted at the fact the Kid was very generous and kind to their second Ura companion, Zia. Finally, the Kid is very gruff and stoic. He works to complete the Bastion without complaint or even asking for context of how it would help beyond being a shelter for survivors, and spends more time focused on working towards that then anything else, often without a word between him or the others. If something needs to be done, he'll do it, world-ending catastrophe or not.

Of course, this is all just what's on the surface. The Kid has lived a hard life and it only recently gave him something like a break. Having never met his father and only having a sickly mother as family, he's more than familiar with solitude and having to work alone. As such, he tends to be very guarded about himself, talking as little as possible before getting back to work on a task of some kind. This is both a defense mechanism and a subtle show of a different side of the Kid: that is, he doesn't have a very high opinion of himself. This doesn't show outwardly, but The Kid feels considerable amounts of self-loathing topped off by survivor's guilt, post-Calamity. Failing, from his own perspective, to get money to help his mother quickly enough lead to her death, something he responded to immediately by signing up on a second turn on the Rippling Walls...something no citizen had ever done in the whole history of Caelondia, being what could be described as managing the Great Wall of China during a war. Add the elements and wild creatures from outside the city, and you have a good idea of what being a Mason at the Walls was like. As Bastion's story goes on and the Kid's problems to tackle get more and more dangerous and troubling, he becomes a heavier drinker. When under the effects of Jawson's Bog, he hears a voice taunting him and calling him a murderer and a petty thief, indicating The Kid feels tremendous amounts of guilt for scavenging for remains of The Old World and having to kill both creatures in the Wild and disturbing the petrified remains of people caught in The Calamity. Primarily, however, The Kid channels this misery into worse and worse working conditions: if a job has to be done, he'll do it. The more dangerous, the better. In his mind, this is to make up for his failures, and on some level, he may wish he can die on one of those jobs.

Despite all of this, however, The Kid is a very determined and compassionate individual. Despite everything he goes through and the length The Kid has to cross to repair the Bastion and the survivors' only hope, he manages to do so without any real complaint, pushing his workhorse ethic and how much physical punishment his body could take to the very limit to do so. Speak of, despite his aforementioned gruffness and self-loathing, The Kid is a very kind individual who will work to save his friends and loved ones no matter what the cost. When school didn't work out, him not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, he immediately signed on for the dangerous job at the Rippling Walls to get money to care for her. This is demonstrated in-game as well, The Kid carrying Zulf to safety despite both losing the most powerful weapon in his arsenal and taking several dozen arrows on his body as a result. This also shows he is forgiving and dedicated to his friends, Zulf having been the central antagonist after finding out another survivor's hand in the Calamity, nearly destroying the Bastion as a result.

To summarize, The Kid could best be described as a battered old vessel. It's clunky, it's not particularly sharp, and it's taken several beatings from both itself and others. But no matter what, he'll get the job done and do what he can to help.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Strength
Justification: If it's not fairly clear by now, The Kid is a strong-willed individual. World-ending catastrophes, several dozen arrows, burns, slashes, and more from both wild animals and Ura only manage to slow him down most of the time. He also cares deeply about others and is very passionate about work he has to be done, carrying it out to the bitter end. At the same time, the Kid is inadequate to himself, never being able to make up for his mistakes and shortcomings in his own mind and constantly drinking himself silly or taking worse working conditions to cope with it. He's also not very polite or formal most of the time, something that occasionally says hello to his heavy drinking habits.

Samples:
First Person Sample: [The Kid is holding up what seems to be a hammer. Yes, an ordinary hammer, the kind you can find in a toolshed. He's just staring at it with a look of disappointment, like he just watched his own best friend die in a disgracefully comical fashion.. He turns to the screen and casually tosses the hammer away. Glass shattering in the background can be heard.] Anyone know where to find a bigger hammer? Using a tiny thing like that for work...don't feel right. It don't feel right at all.
Third Person Sample:
The Kid didn't complain much whenever he was given work of some kind to do...in fact, thankless work done without question was a good way to describe him in general. However, something that juuust barely encompassed a scowl was appearing on his face. That is, if you could even see his face past all the absurd amounts of luggage he was carrying in his arms, on his shoulders and his back. He wasn't being paid for this, either. There was just a cute girl at the hotel who said she needed a little help with carrying her luggage to her room, and Kid just couldn't say no to a pretty face. That sort of mindset, he mused, might get him killed one day. Still, he's about halfway up a set of stairs before he feels his foot slip, letting out a surprised yell just in time to start tumbling down with all the heavy suitcases and luggage. He would reach the bottom in an undignified heap with several of the bags promptly colliding with him. He'd rest in this horrible, heavy dogpile from hell with complete stillness for a moment before grunting and pulling himself out of it, rubbing his head a little from the pain of the impact. Kid looks around himself, then towards the luggage, then towards the top of the stairs...and just sighs, picking up everything he can and preparing to start the journey all over again.

Shame nobody ever told him about elevators.

Method of Contact: AIM ryudojitemple, Plurk Misheard
Characters Played: Ryuunosuke Uryuu, Ledah Rozwelli, Issei Ryudo, V/V, Eater, Sanaki Kirsch Altina, Astolfo [Rider]

Character Info:
Name: Bridget Doherty
Age: Appears 82, actually 183
Canon: The Reformed Vampires Support Group
Pull Point: Post-canon

Background Info:
History: It's 1908, and Bridget Doherty is a nun at the Magdalene Hospice. She's eighty-two years old, and nursing Gladys back to health after some unknown sickness when Gladys bites her and infects her with vampirism.

Thus Bridget remains an eighty-two year old vampire for a very, very long time. Vampires are not appealing. She has bad hips and trouble getting up stairs, she can't eat or drink anything besides blood (she lives off of frozen gerbils), she's hurt by sunlight and sleeps in a meat locker. Skinned knees make her uncomfortable, it's dangerous to go out in public or in a car without heavily tinted windows. The highlight of her week is going to a support group for vampires where they talk about their feelings and problems. Which she's been doing for about a hundred years now.

Bridget spends most of her time knitting. She's very good at it - there's not a lot else she can do.
Personality: Bridget has an extremely gentle personality. She is described as the least threatening person in existence - besides how vampirism tends to make you sick and her old age and how she's a tiny woman with a cane, she's just an incredibly caring person who could reassure anyone that she means no harm and who believes in goodness in all people. She looks after the other vampires in her group, especially the younger ones and Gladys, who's kind of her responsibility. When a vampire killer was on the loose, Bridget wondered if they should put out refreshments for him when they tried to talk him out of hating and fearing them as a sign of well-meaning. She is that nice.

Although she seems like a pushover, Bridget has a strong sense of self-control. When a vampire first sees blood, they can go insane for it and attack, and after that they're never truly trusted not to attack others again. Usually those who overcome being blooded are able to do so because they have someone else to help them - Bridget is the only one in their group who passed the test alone, purely because of her strong religious conviction. Being a vampire has not changed her faith in God one bit.

She is hopeful that things will work out and get better, that everything will be okay. Although she worries when bad things do happen, she never gives up or gives in, and does everything she can (although that's limited) to help the people around her.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Star
Justification: The Star represents having faith in the future and in God, being thankful for your blessings and generous with your gifts, and being at peace. Little truly troubles Bridget, only huge crises like vampire killers on the loose. She's all right with her miserable existence and spends her time caring for others as much as she can. And her faith in God and the blessings of the future have guided her as a person.

Samples:
First Person Sample: Excuse me, but does anyone know what's wrong with the sun today?

That seems like a strange question to ask, but I haven't stayed outside this long in... a very very long time, and it usually makes me sick. I'm lost, too, so, could someone kind please tell me where I am and how to get back home?
Third Person Sample: Bridget winces when she realizes that the sun is beaming straight down on her, and she hobbles towards the nearest shelter as fast as she can.

Bridget being Bridget, she takes a long enough time to get inside that she realizes something must be strange. Normally she would be burned to a crisp or at the very least asleep by now. Instead the sun is shining, the wind is blowing gently, people are walking by, and absolutely nothing bad is happening to her.

...Is it a miracle of God?

Name: Ryu
Age: Appears to be in his late teens/early 20s, actually both less than a year old and about 600 years old, as well as ageless.
Canon: Breath of Fire IV
Pull Point: The end of Chapter II

Background Info:
History:
To understand Ryu, one must understand first a bit of the history of Fou-Lu. Fou-Lu was an emperor, the first of the Fou Empire, and he ruled with strength and an iron fist. It is said that before he died and was laid to rest in his tomb hundreds of years ago, he predicted his own resurrection.

Ryu was “born” when an empire called the “Muuru” found a way to summon dragons, though it was imperfect. One such dragon was the Yorae Dragon, and Ryu was one half of this great dragon, sent through time separate from his other half. The other half was Fou-Lu, still sleeping.

Ryu attacked a sandflier in the desert by accident, and then was found by Nina, one of the people riding the sandflier. Nina and Cray (the other person on the sandflier) were searching for Nina's sister Elina. Ryu had no memory of who he was or where he came from, and didn't even have any clothes on at first. He joined Nina (after finding some clothes) in finding parts for her sandflier while Cray stayed with the craft so it wasn't stolen.

Nina and Ryu headed to the city of Sarai, where they were told where they could find the parts. However, Nina was harassed by a member of the Imperial Army, and Ryu attacked them in order to get them to leave her alone. They escaped Sarai, picked up parts in Sandflier Valley (but not the right ones), and went to a town called Chamba, where they were escorted through the poisoned city by a mysterious person in armor named Ershin. Around this time Ryu gained his ability to shift into dragon form.

The three reunited with Cray, and after a strange shared dream from Ryu, they went off to search for Elina more. They ended up in the town of Synesta. During this time Fou-Lu had awakened and was searching for Ryu. The party left Synesta and went to the border town of Kyojin, where they were captured by the Imperials and were returned to Windia, where they were guarded by a mercenary named Scias, and had an audience with the king, Nina's father. They were told to seek the Wind Dragon, and after they freed Cray from where he was being held, they found the dragon. The Wind Dragon told them of Ryu's dragon heritage and warned them that there would be grave danger if he and Fou-Lu were to meet.

The group then traveled to the village of Chek, where the Abbess confirmed that Ryu was indeed a dragon, and explained a little more about what that meant. They were informed that Ershin was also a dragon, and the incomplete summoning had trapped her in the armor. Ershin's spirit was transferred to a medium, and the group sought the advice of the dragons, who told Ryu to find their human forms around the world and they would give him power to help him stand a chance against Fou-Lu if the two should meet. They moved to an Imperial town on the western border, and were captured. Ryu fought against the Imperial forces, lost control of himself, and transformed into the Kaiser Dragon, his most powerful dragon form. He obliterated the soldiers standing against them, and then fell asleep.
Personality:

Ryu has a generally pleasant personality. He doesn't talk a lot, unless you start talking to him first, and does have a fun-loving side, as demonstrated by his love of fishing. All this cheerfulness does hide another side of himself. If he's in one of his dragon forms, he's more likely to go berserk and attack things indiscriminately, and the stronger the dragon form the more likely this is. He's still very unsure of his purpose, and mentioning “purpose” to his face might get him to stop and think for a moment, and maybe wonder what he's intended for.

While wandering around during the course of the game, he doesn't have any memories at all, and so doesn't know very much of the world outside of what he's seen directly. His main motivation is more clearly stated in the manga, where he speaks more, and his dreams are shown where he is chasing after an unknown figure (which he later learns is Fou-Lu). He's even asked who this person is and what kind of person it is, and even where this person is, but he just doesn't know. All he knows is that he has to meet this person, because he's “always felt him calling”. Since he doesn't really know who or where this person is, he travels with Nina and Cray to help them find Nina's sister. Nina is a very close friend to Ryu, able to calm him down from even a blind frenzy, but he holds no romantic feelings for her. She likes Cray, and Ryu wouldn't ever want to do something that makes his friends upset.

Emotionally and mentally, he's like a child. He knows the difference between right and wrong in a vague sort of sense – basically, killing people is wrong unless absolutely needed – but doesn't completely understand concepts of appropriateness like “don't peek around the rock when the girls are bathing”, “watch where you put your arm when you fling it out”, and “people get embarrassed/frustrated/flustered/angry when you don't put clothes on”. He rushes into things, even going so far as to jump off a cliff to try to save Nina (and landing face first) because he didn't realize she had wings that she could float down on. Most of his expression is in his body language, so even if he doesn't say that he's, for example, upset or angry or something like that, it's fairly obvious from how he stands, because he doesn't really bother to hide his feelings. He doesn't really see a need to, since lying isn't something the really occurs to him. Tact is also not his strong point, for the same reasons.

Game Specific:
Arcana: The Fool
Justification: Ryu, in his canon, starts at the beginning of a journey, knowing nothing. His quest involves, in part, learning about himself and why he is how he is. He's innocent and upbeat, optimistic and more or less carefree… but at the same time, as per the Fool's reversed meaning, he is impulsive and doesn't always follow the rules laid out by society.

Samples:
First Person Sample:

[He fiddles with the buttons and then suddenly the screen goes upside-down. Ryu frowns.]

I've never seen anything like this before, either. Does this work on magic? It's really strange.

I might just be talking to myself again…

Oh. Uh… if anyone's seen someone named Fou-Lu, let me know please? I… can't tell you what he looks like because I don't know… but I really need to find him.
Third Person Sample:

It was so weird here. He didn't know anyone, and even things like the… cars?… on the road were startling. He had stopped overreacting after the fifth one, but they all made him wary. And this phone… it was so strange. People could talk to each other over so far a distance!

There were also things he didn't like about this place. He couldn't transform into his dragon form. He couldn't feel Fou-Lu pulling him (which was a good thing in some way but it had become familiar). And most of all, he missed his friends. The people here were nice, but there was something to be said about having a friend whom you could trust to have your back in a fight. It wasn't that he didn't trust them… but he still expected Imperial soldiers to come charging after him at a moment's notice.

Sighing, he turned over and looked at the window again, trying to figure out how the music was coming out of the box on the ledge again.

Background Info:

Personality:

Diao Chan can be described as many things behind that beautiful face of hers. And her beauty is something to not be taken lightly no matter who you are. Her smile was known for seducing any man into doing what she wanted in order to archive her goals.

She's a kind, caring, calm person with a strong sense of elegance that positions her in a high status in the old China. She often will be seen speaking in a calm and rational way to anyone outside battle, and she's not one to lose her temper easily in battle either, often taking the role of the leader in some battles or just an aid at Lu Bu's side, as the only woman that is important to him. She knows the kindness and the compassion of a woman, but she will not show mercy on an enemy of her Lord and lover.

Despite being born during so many battles, Diao Chan dislikes violence in general, but she knows that sometimes battle is unavoidable. She's fond of the art of conversation and will use it as much as she can to convince and manipulate others for her own goals. Even if she knows her place as a woman in that era, this doesn't mean she will take kindly being ignored or insulted by others; for that she will bring down the one that committed such acts to restore her honor.

This woman can recognize other people's strength and is not a fool to attack without a chance of winning or without a plan. Diao Chan acts from behind while no one is watching, using her beauty and her love as her main weapons. She knows that an enemy shouldn't be taken lightly by how they look in the outside, as herself falls from the same category.
She originally planned to make Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu kill each other for her father's wish and she almost did it until she realized that she truly cared for her Lord.

Diao Chan is a dancer and a singer who is truly devoted to her art. For her it's a great pleasure being able to perform the arts she learned and loved since she started them, and it reflects in her combat abilities, where she often will say that she has a 'Dance of Death' and that the battlefield is her Stage to slay down her enemies with her moves and attacks. She does not want to be taken as a someone weak just by her looks.

For her, the most important person in the world is her lord Lu Bu, the man that she first used to manipulate and fight for her because of his strength and his status, but that she ended falling in love with. After fulfilling her father's wish, her own desire was being able to stay at his side. She's quite aware of how much influence she has on him, and she might use it for some things, but no one can deny that she would do anything for him.

Game Specific:

Arcana: Hierophant

Justification:

" Education ----- Knowledge ----- Status quo ----- Institution
Conservatism ----- Discipline ----- Maturity ----- Formality
Deception ----- Power ----- Respect ----- Duality
Social convention ----- Belief system ----- Group identification
Experience ----- Tradition ----- Naïve "
Each one of them describes a part of Diao Chan's personality. From the part she shows to the world, as the politic stance she takes from the shadows, the ability to turn the events at her convenience, and even the feelings she only shows to a certain person. The Hierophant is the Arcana that fits her the most.

[ Have a video coming from a sweet lady that seems to be new for everything in this world. ]

Is this working...? I truly hope so, I require assistance with information and battle. [ She makes a sad face for a moment, as if she were remembering something. ] Those creatures have not stopped pursuing me and they do not seem to have any intention of doing it for a bit longer... And no matter how hard I strike them, my attacks do not seem to work. What is it what am I lacking...?

[ She looks away of the camera for a moment. ]

No matter how hard I perform my dance of death, this battlefield does not seem to stop. Oh, Lord Lu Bu... How I long to be at your since once more...

[ The feed ends when Diao Chan looks down and finishes it. ]

Third Person Sample:

One. Two. Thee. Four.

All her steps were calculated to move gracefully and beautifully in that stage when she performed that dance. Her movement was precise and didn't waste too much energy so she could continue the rhythm of the music as long as she needed too. Her arms followed her moves accordingly without any complains and the grip of her hand was tight around her weapon.

"Can you survive my dance of death?" She spoke gently when she made a small pause, gazing at the Shadows in front of her. There were quite persistent, but she did not fall back. She had fought worse enemies the time she was alive and next to her Lord. "You are far away from where you should be, monster of the shadows. Allow me to guide you to your next life! Do not take me lightly because of my looks!"

Her whip hit the floor as she hit another enemy. The battle was far from finished, but she had faith that he would come to her once more.

"You have always come back to me after your battles... This is not an exception, right... Lord Lu Bu?" She spoke fondly as she was forced to retreat when her attacks didn't seem to affect the enemy. No future battles would be won if she died right now.

Character Info:
Name: Nanao Ise
Age: 36, physically 6/7
Canon: Bleach
Pull Point: End of the Turn Back The Pendulum mini-arc

Background Info:
History: I'm taking Nanao from just after the earliest chronological time shown in Bleach - the Turn Back the Pendulum mini-arc, which is roughly 100 years before the main storyline begins.

Nanao's early life was not pleasant. Following her traumatic death, she was reborn into the Rukongai (a sort of shanty town for souls without reishi), and her reishi began to grow by leaps and bounds. Difficult to control without proper training, it would build to dangerous levels, and release explosively as a regulation mechanism, often causing major collateral damage to anything that was around her. This resulted in her being shunned by most inhabitants of the Rukongai, and they forced her to the very outskirts of the inhabited areas, where wild and dangerous creatures live, in the hope that a Hollow - which is essentially a corrupted soul - would find her and eat her, thereby turning her into one of them.

This, as you can imagine, did not make for the happiest of childhoods, and left Nanao with a general lack of faith and trust in humanity as a whole. This, combined with her powers (and lack of control over them), precipitated the formation of her cool and withdrawn persona that we see in grown-up Nanao. However, even her control isn’t perfect, and occasionally bursts of emotion come through - and although they’re not always overly extreme, they can be... powerful, especially when combined with unstable reishi.

However, when we first meet her in-series, she’s shown to be a member of the Eighth Division, so that means at some point that she was not only found, but has gone through the Academy, a process that normally takes six years to complete, and appears to have a close relationship with the Vice-Captain, Lisa Yadomaru. It’s stated that one the first day of each month, she comes to Lisa, and they read books together. Extrapolating this, it would appear that Nanao has probably come to see Lisa as a surrogate mother figure, and thus, her ordered execution and subsequent escape at the end of the Turn Back The Pendulum arc would be heartbreaking for the young Shinigami, and it’s likely that she would have retreated back into her shell, so to speak.

Personality: Nanao has been through a great many trials in her second life as a soul, and unfortunately for her, most of them have had negative impacts on her worldview. At her current canon point, her trust and faith in the goodness of people has been shattered a second time; resulting in her becoming extremely withdrawn and nervous. A lot of things have changed very rapidly, and she feels like she's been left behind and abandoned by the upheaval.

This has caused her to turn to the one thing that she knows can't lie to her or abandon her: books. She begins to read extensively, and by the canon point I'm taking her from, she has a good working knowledge of most Britannic/European legends, myths, and folklore, in addition to the military tactics and fighting knowledge she has gained as a part of her Shinigami education. While not a prodigy on the scale of Gin or Hitsugaya, she is certainly very intelligent, and when motivated and willing, can put her mind to excellent use.

However, trying to gain her trust can be an exhausting and difficult process, as this is a child who has been traumatised badly - as one who takes comfort in schedules and order, she finds it hard to adapt to new situations and new people, which results in her anxiety going through the roof, and usually a loss of control over her reishi, which in turn makes people wary of her. It's a vicious cycle, and one that's not easily broken.

Getting her to actually look up at you when talking can be a difficult proposition - as can actually managing to start a conversation. She has roughly two decades of escaping from unwanted situations under her belt, and the academy training to do a bit of damage if cornered. One should not forget that she is essentially now a child soldier, and the creatures she is to fight are quite literally the most monstrous abstractions of humanity possible. The graduation exam from the academy that all potential Shingami (Soul Reaper is an accurate translation) must take is to go on a Hollow-hunting expedition. Even though they are fighting the most pathetic of these monsters, fatalities can still occur - and perhaps fatality does not accurately convey what happens when a Hollow, a corrupted and fallen human soul twisted into some horrific form, consumes a pure soul, or plus.

Now, some of the other members of that graduation group have probably never seen a Hollow before, or heard them. Not felt the foul presence of their reiatsu, nor seen what they can do a living creature. Those are the lucky ones, and Nanao is not one of those people. She has lived for twenty something years on the outskirts of a society who refused to accept her, at constant risk of starvation and Hollow attack. To say she is jaded might be putting it mildly, but at least she understands the risk that Hollows pose to them, and she makes every effort to stay away from the battlefield at every time.

Game Specific:
Arcana: Tower
Justification: The major changes, upheaval and disruption of the end results of the events of TBtP would change how Seireitei functioned - and as a direct result, how Nanao would grow into her eventual role of Lieutenant of the Eighth Division. At the moment, however, she has lost her faith in authority, and having been let down, she retreats into herself; effectively, she imprisons herself by putting on an icy, detached persona and keeping her distance. She's been burned badly, but in a way, it actually gives her more freedom than she had before, in that her constant reading will give her the knowledge and the space to gain powerful abilities in the future.

{Hello, Prospero! Today when the feed clicks on, the littlest purse owner wielder has a bit of a confused look on her face.}
Uhm, I'm sorry to bother you, but I have a rather urgent question. How do you get a job here?
{She pauses, and fiddles with the fabric of her pants before continuing.}
It's just that I've run out of gift cards and no one wants to take me on as a worker, and I don't know why. Any help would be nice.
{Her voice trails off as she reaches for the device.}
Why do they laugh at me when I tell them how old I am?

Third Person Sample:

She'd slept through the first few "Dark Hours", which reassured those who were staying with her immensely. They all assumed that since she looked so young, she was young, and therefore inexperienced. They couldn't have been further from the truth. As a Shinigami, she had been trained to dispatch monstrous creatures by sword and by magic, and though she was lacking in her magic, her muscle memory was strong.

This time, as the clock ticked ever closer to midnight, she prepared. Dark clothes, to help with stealth. A carving knife, the closest thing she could find in size and weight to her zanpakutou. The lack of her innate spiritual power bothered her, but it was something she would have to do without. She swung out onto the balcony of her hotel room and stared as the few humans still walking around disappeared into coffins.

She'd sworn as a Shinigami to protect human souls from destruction and corruption - and while she would prefer to ignore the battlefield, to simply leave the fighting behind, she knew she could not. She had a power, and she must use it. Something that had been whispered into her mind when she first awoke on this strange and confusing island. Persona. And now, it was time to try and find out what that power was.
