»Who can I apply for?
We allow almost all fictional characters. They can come from any medium, from television to Broadway to comics, and from either hemisphere. This roleplay is based on a Japanese video game, but if you want to app from an American comic book, we would love to have you!
We will also allow original characters if they come from an original universe which is given enough detail/backstory/history to provide a substantial application.
We will allow characters without canon personalities, such as player avatars used in some games, as long as their personality and history given in the app do not disagree with the given canon. Please discuss history with any fellow castmates before sending in an app.
»Who can't I apply for?
While we accept a broad range of characters, there are some that we will not allow to be apped:
We will allow characters from Persona, and all related Shin Megami Tensei games. Rule update effective 9/21/12: No strings attached, no AU or pre-canon necessary. Apply for whoever you like from when and wherever you prefer. Knowledge of Personas/demons/the Velvet Room is completely fair game.
Which ever road you decide to take, we strongly suggest talking with existing cast mates. Decide what history, if any, exists between characters.
»What if my character isn't human or doesn't have a human appearance?
If the character is non-human in appearance they will gain a human body upon being brought into the game. During the Dark Hour, they will in most cases revert to their usual form. (ex. a My Little Pony character or a Homestuck troll would appear human at all times save for the Dark Hour.) Through the course of the game there will be occasional regain opportunities, at which point players can opt to have their characters regain their true form 24/7.
»What about character age?
Characters can be any age as long as they do not require constant in-character care to be played.
»What about characters who die in canon? Can they be apped from death?
Yes. As long as the character is apped just after or at the time of death.
»What about the living undead or ghosts?
Yes, they can be apped. However they will be made living and human once in Prospero.
»What if my character has multiple souls or people living in them?
If your character has another applicable character trapped in them, then we ask these characters be played separately. For example, we would ask that Yugi and Yami from Yu-Gi-Oh, be played by two players.
»What if my character consists of more than one person but cannot be played separately?
If your character is part of a hive mind set or for some reason consists of multiple characters controlled by one personality (ex. Shinobu Sensui from Yu Yu Hakusho), we will allow the set to be apped by one player. We ask that the set be contained to one journal. Mods may ask for further information to decide whether a character falls into a set such as this.
»What if my character has a pet or sidekick? Can they come too?
If the pet/sidekick/familiar does not qualify as an applicable character by the above examples, they may come with their master/owner. Mods may ask for further information to decide if a 'pet' qualifies.
»How many characters can I play?
Currently, there is no limit of the number of characters any one player can play. We just ask that you can pass AC with all of your current characters before trying to app more.
»Can I play multiple characters from the same fandoms?
Yes, but only if you can prove the characters have no conections or contact with each other within the fandom and will not have reason to have contact within the game. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
»Do we have to use fresh samples or can we reuse old ones?
We ask that samples be written within the game's context. If an older sample can be applied to the context, then go right on ahead and use it.
»Can app samples be linked from an entry on dear_mun, testrunbox, a musebox, etc.?

testrun_box. Our game tag is game: the velvet key! Additionally, museboxes and other communities are allowed so long as the setting is set for the game's context.
